Things coaches actually say — on the touchline, in the car home, in the group chat at eleven at night. Each one is answered here by a screen Touchline already builds from your own matches.
None of this asks you to tag more. It's all built from what you already recorded on match day. Touchline doesn't tell you what to do — it shows you what you've been doing, and leaves the answer where it belongs.
Figures shown are illustrative examples of how findings are presented, not data from any real club.
Touchline runs on your own smartphone or tablet — no extra hardware, no specialist kit. Log into your profile and your match screen is ready and waiting. Whether you're on the touchline live, working from a recording, or preparing for next week, it works the way you already think about the game.
Sign up, create your profile on your own smartphone or tablet, and Touchline prepares your match screen ready for use. Add your squad and players and you're set — no complicated onboarding, no technical setup. If you don't have your full squad confirmed yet, that's fine. You can tag matches and add players later. Nothing is locked behind a setup screen.
You can also add Trialists to your matches. If you decide to sign them, transfer them straight into your squad and their match data comes with them — every minute played and every contribution already on record from day one.
From your Home Screen, open a new live match and Touchline runs the clock. Tap events as they happen — shots, entries into the final third, crosses, set pieces, goals. Each tap takes less than a second. You stay focused on the game; the app stays out of your way.
Can't tag live? Watch your recording back and tag from the footage. The result is the same — a complete, accurate picture of what actually happened.
Tap Half Time and your report appears immediately. Key comparisons, attacking entries, shot outcomes against the goalkeeper and balls blocked by defenders, crossing picture — everything laid out clearly before you've reached the dressing room door. The metrics give you an informed basis for conversations around your offensive and defensive organisation: where your strengths are showing, and where vulnerabilities may be appearing.
Instead of relying on memory or gut feel, you walk into that team talk with evidence. You know which channel you've dominated. You know where their threats have come from. You know your entry count and whether you're converting territory into danger. That changes the conversation — it becomes specific, honest, and actionable. Players respond to clarity.
At full time, Touchline asks who scored, who assisted, who was booked, and who came on or off. This is what builds your player profiles over the season. Then tap Save — your match is stored and your season data updates automatically.
Made an error in the heat of the moment? Every completed match stays editable. Open any game from your Home Screen and correct the detail — goals, assists, bookings, substitutions — so your records stay accurate even when a fast-moving match makes perfect live capture difficult.
Every match adds to a growing picture. Goals and assists, shot outcomes, crossing successes and non-completions by channel — including your wide lanes — squad minutes tracked across every player to help you manage workload and rotation, and season trends across your key attacking and defensive metrics. All of it emerges from the matches you tag, building quietly in the background.
Before each match, your Pre-Match Brief pulls from your season data to surface what's working, what needs attention, and where your team is most dangerous. Your Pre-Match Intelligence does the same for the opponent picture. Walk into every game with a plan built on evidence, not instinct alone.
Four things worth knowing before you decide, including the one nobody emails to ask.
Yes — because Touchline isn’t trying to record everything that happens. It records the things that tell you something: entries into the final third, touches in the box, when a line gets broken, where the ball is won and where it’s lost.
Capturing every pass would bury the signal. Too much noise gets in the way. You’re marking moments, not narrating a match — and there is far less to keep up with than you might imagine.
It’s taps, not typing. Put the phone down when you need to coach and pick it up again. Miss things and the report still works, because you’re measured against your own season — and the same eye misses the same things every week.
And you don’t have to take my word for it. Every subscription includes a Practice Room: put a game on the television, tag it, and find out how it feels with nothing riding on it. It stays completely separate from your season.
The same events are recorded at both ends of the pitch, so what you end up with is the game rather than half of it — how you attacked, and how you were attacked.
That doubles what your season trends can say. Not only where your own attack narrows, but where opponents get at you, how much of what they try reaches your goal, and how often your defence closes it down before it does.
It also means that if you meet a side again, you hold an accurate record of what happened last time rather than a memory of it.
It doesn’t scout teams, though. What it holds on an opponent is the record of a match you were in — never a profile of a club you haven’t played.
If you coach a senior side and a youth side, you can take both — and they run as two separate subscriptions with their own login.
The two sets of records never touch. That’s deliberate: a senior squad and a youth squad are different players, different formats and different seasons, so keeping the data completely apart means neither can ever contaminate the other’s totals or trends.
Both apps carry a number of fully tagged demo games, built deliberately so that every part of the app has something real to show you.
Load them onto your home screen and work through them exactly as you would your own season — the match reports, the season trends, the squad record.
Nothing is locked, and they don’t interfere with your live information. Explore them mid-season if you like; your own record stays exactly as it was.
Ten slides, built for a real match day — not a printable you fill in by hand. It’s a PowerPoint file, so change whatever you like, drop your own club badge in the corner, and use it every week.
No subscription and no trial. It’s yours to keep and use however you want, whether you ever subscribe to Touchline or not.

I built Touchline for myself first.
Last season, as one example, I tracked nearly 60 games with a tally chart, a pen and a calculator. I knew what that information was worth. I also knew I couldn’t keep doing it that way.
I have coached for sixteen years. I hold a UEFA B Licence, the FA Youth Award, FA National Goalkeeping Course certification and FA Level 2 in Goalkeeping. In talent identification and analysis I hold FA National Talent Identification Level 2, PFSA Level 2 in Opposition Analysis and Talent Identification, and AFCAS Level 6 in Talent Reporting and Scouting. I have been an FA Coach Mentor for over thirteen years and an FA Affiliate Tutor, and I am currently an FA Coach Developer across Essex County FA.
I am Head Goalkeeper Coach and Head of Data at Grays Athletic FC in the Isthmian League North. I am also Head Goalkeeper Coach for the Watford FC Women’s Emerging Talent Centre pathway. Since 2021 I have reported on talent and insights for the England Women’s senior and emerging youth teams.
For 27 years before that I served in the police, retiring as a senior detective. That work ran on evidence, hypothesis and patient analysis. Those are the same habits I take to a touchline, and they are why these apps insist on getting the numbers right.
Touchline is my own work. No club, county FA or governing body endorses these apps, and I would never ask them to.
